Anatomy Laboratory – Practical Training for Diploma Students

The Anatomy Laboratory at KPC Institute of Paraveterinary & Animal Sciences provides hands-on training to diploma students to develop a strong understanding of the normal anatomy of domestic and companion animal species. The practical sessions help students understand anatomical structures and apply this knowledge to routine veterinary procedures.

The laboratory provides practical exposure to:

  • Comparative Anatomy: Students study and compare the anatomy of different animal species, including cattle, horse, dog, pig, goat, sheep and poultry, with emphasis on important similarities and differences between species.
  • Bones and Skeletal System: Identification and study of major bones and skeletal landmarks, enabling students to recognize important anatomical locations in different species.
  • Muscular System: Detailed study and identification of important muscles, their location and anatomical landmarks. Special emphasis is placed on clinically relevant muscles and sites used for intramuscular injections, helping students understand appropriate injection-site selection and avoid important nerves, vessels and other structures.
  • Joints: Practical identification and study of the major joints, including their anatomical components, movements and clinical significance.
  • Surface Anatomy: Students learn to identify important anatomical landmarks on live animals, relating the structures studied in the laboratory to their practical clinical applications.
  • Species-Specific Anatomy: Particular attention is given to anatomical differences that influence handling, restraint, injection techniques, physical examination and routine veterinary procedures in different species.

The Anatomy Laboratory therefore provides students with a strong foundation in veterinary anatomy and comparative anatomy, enabling them to confidently recognize anatomical structures and apply this knowledge during their clinical, laboratory and field training.
